COPUS opens its doors and looks toward 2009

COPUS welcomes the American Institute of Biological Sciences and the Geological Society of America as official sponsors of the coalition. We also welcome Jack Hess, Executive Director of GSA, on to the COPUS Steering Committee. Several new organizations have been added to the COPUS network and we encourage others to join in efforts to increase the public understanding of and engagement in science.

During 2007, COPUS will focus on the following activities:

- Growing the COPUS network and building a searchable database of network participants and resources for promoting the public understanding of science.

- Developing state-level benchmark science-indicator reports on the importance of science to the U.S. Economy and standard-of-living

- Supporting a national effort to promote the public understanding of science in a year-long celebration: Year of Science 2009.
